I ~~made~~/assembled a simple, industrial looking, DIY ceiling lighting. The design is an Open Source project by Die Krieger des Lichts. Maybe someone is interested in the process, so I put info$ and MakingOf together.

idea, design & all of the credits:

[...] "o2licht is an open source lighting tool" developed by Die Krieger des Lichts
<3 + THANK YOU!

[...] download the template for the cutouts on their product site -> https://dkdl.de/02licht/

standard strip lights / lighting / neon tubes:

[...] I bought my strip lights & tubes at elektro4000 (no affiliate)
[...] the whole package was delivered two working days later via DPD

[...] 3x RZB Zimmermann Lichtleiste 451041.752.79 - 16,53/each for the long ones, 120cm
[...] 3x Osram Leuchtstofflampe LUMILUX HE 35W/840 - 1,80€/each for the long ones

lasercutting:

[...] costs depends on your local FabLab(membership?)
[...] I went to <3 Fabulous St. Pauli in Hamburg and paid 15€ for the time using the tools and material.

learning 1:

[...] it was used an <Epilog Zing 60W lasercutter> for the cutouts, run by <Visicut> which is an free and open source lasercutter software developed by Thomas Oster during his bachalor thesis at RWTH Aachen;
[...] because the chosen wood was only 30mm thick, I had to fumble around with it later.
[...] I had to rasp/improve a little bit the internal edges of the cutouts; next time I would go with thicker wood or arcrylic glass aka Plexiglas;
[...] ~~as may be the case~~ you have to convert the original *.PDF in the beginning into a document file the lasercutter is able to read <e.g. SVG, EPS, DXF>

learning 2:

[...] think about your electric loop right from the start - if you want your lighting be powered by one power cable only
[...] if you ease the three strip lights (Lichtleisten) through the cutouts, don't push them through the side where the switches are. I made the mistake in the beginning, so I had to do it twice (see the difference in the last picture?).
